In my opinion, Kenya’s approach to managing its forests and water resources needs urgent reform. The current rate of deforestation is unsustainable and poses a severe threat to the country’s future. While efforts have been made to reforest some areas and protect key water catchments, these measures are not enough. There needs to be a more integrated and community-centered approach to conservation, one that recognizes the vital link between forests and water resources and addresses the root causes of deforestation, such as poverty, land tenure issues, and lack of alternative livelihoods.
