In my opinion, the future of Kenya’s informal sector in the digital age depends on how well it can navigate the challenges of digital transformation. There is a real risk that those who cannot adapt will be left behind, further deepening social and economic inequalities. However, if the informal sector can embrace digital technology and if the government and private sector can provide the necessary support, there is immense potential for growth and development.
To ensure that the informal sector thrives in a digital age, it is crucial to invest in digital literacy programs, expand access to affordable technology, and create an enabling environment for small businesses to grow. This will require a collaborative effort between the government, private sector, and civil society.
